Brooklyn Park wins major GIS award

The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) has awarded the City of Brooklyn Park their Exemplary System in Government Award. The award is presented to organizations that demonstrate “outstanding and working examples of using information systems technology in a multi-department environment as part of an integrated process.”

Not only that, but the awarded systems also demonstrate “effective use of technology yielding widespread improvements in the processes and services involved and cost savings to the organization.”

Past winners

URISA, which was founded in 1963, began presenting awards in 1981. Past winners include:

  • The cities of York, CA; Dallas, TX; Baltimore, MD; Orlando, FL; Charlotte; NC, and Victoria, AU
  • The states of New Hampshire, Idaho, Massachusetts, Arkansas, and Montana
  • MetroGIS (GIS Branch of the Met Council)
  • The US National Park Service
  • The Republic of Singapore

Award ceremony

The award will be presented at URISA’s 54th Annual Conference in Toronto, Canada. The conference will include online publication of our award application, an official award presentation, video, and the opportunity to present with a follow up webinar.
