Snowmobile License
You need to apply in person for a snowmobile license.
Only a current registration on your snowmobile is required. There is no certificate of title needed at this time. Snowmobile registration is valid for three years and runs from July 1 to June 30. The Minnesota Snowmobile Safety Laws, Rules and Regulations is available at our office.

Sales receipt showing paid sales tax. Year, make, model, serial number and engine size

Bill of Sale with DNR registration number, handwritten is allowed. Information to include:
- Year
- Make
- Model
- Serial Number
- Registration Number
- Date of sale
- Purchase Amount
Seller: current registered owner must sign
Buyers: all buyers must sign the bill of sale. All signatures must be original. They may not be pre-printed or photo-copied.
Duplicate Decal or Registration Card
Owner with ID and DNR registration number.

State Trail Sticker is not required for snowmobiles
- While being used to groom a state or grant-in-aid trail
- Owned by the federal government, Indian tribal government, state, and political subdivisions
- Operating with a collector permit
- On portions of a trail owned by the person or the person’s spouse, child, or parent
All trails are open to snowmobiles with metal traction devices, unless posted closed.
Collector snowmobile
- 25 years old or older if produced as separate make
- May be registered for unlimited use for $14.50
- OR by special permit, free of charge. A special permit may be issued to operate a collector snowmobile without registration for parades, organized group outings, or for up to 10 days each year for personal use.
- Must display collector registration number and “99” decal
- The special collector snowmobile permit does not have a registration number or expiration decal Special permit must be carried when operating the collector snowmobile
- A trail sticker is required for the unlimited collector registration when operated on state or grant-in-aid trails
