Topics and speakers

A study by Maxfield Research shows that older adults are the single fastest growing segment of the homeless population.The number of single and dual resident households age 55 and over qualifying for affordable, age restricted housing in 2014 was estimated at 149,723 households, with a current supply of only 23,472 units. This number is expected to explode to 219,873 by 2020 while the number of units is projected to rise to only 23,750.

Two stars of affordable housing will speak at the September Think Again Brooklyns forum.

Representative Alice Hauseman

will speak on the need for affordable housing for MN families and older residents. As chair of the House Capital Investment committee in 2014, Rep. Hausman led the 2014 effort for historic investments to address the affordable housing needs of families, veterans, seniors and low income Minnesotans.

Rep. Hausman was recently named the recipient of the prestigious Mary K. Nenno Legislative Advocacy Award by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). She was also named the "Homes for All" 2015 Housing Champion, a statewide campaign of more than 150 organizations.

Lisa Wilcox Erhardt, Executive Vice President of Housing and Services at Common Bond

will describe the importance of service programs in affordable housing especially the specific programs that Common Bond offers for families, youth and the aging. Common Bond won an Excellence Award from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits in 2014.
