Council members serve a four-year term. If more than two residents file to be elected as mayor or council member for each district, a city primary election will be held in August to nominate candidates for the November city’s general election.
Candidate packets with these required forms are available in the City Clerk’s office at City Hall seven days before the filing dates.
To withdraw from an election, a candidate has to file an Affidavit of Withdrawal with the City Clerk. A candidate has until 5 p.m. two days after candidacy filing period to withdraw. After that date, candidates cannot file an affidavit of withdrawal. (MS205.13, subd. 6).
