About our youth sports programs

Get a great introduction into sports with our instructional sports classes. We offer traditional and alternative sports to interest a wide variety of athletes.

Lil' Tykes Sports

This is a parent/child class. Parents must participate.

Your child will get to experience a variety of fun physical activities that will help introduce them to basic movements and sports skills. Each week we will focus on a different activity that combines positive social interaction and listening skills to introduce children to an active, healthy lifestyle. Each child will receive a t-shirt.

Summer classes

Summer sports may include: soccer, T-ball, tennis, Frisbee, kickball and more.

Ages

2 to 3, children must be 2 by the first day of class.

Tiny Tots Sports

Tiny Tot Sports provides preschoolers with a fun, positive introduction to basic sport and movement skills while helping to further advance social development skills such as listening, taking turns and teamwork. During each class, children will participate in a warm up, sports skills, preschool games like Red Light, Green Light, and end the class with the ever popular parachute. All Tiny Tots receive a t-shirt and a keepsake.

Summer sampler includes: soccer, T-ball, kickball, disc golf, tennis

Fall classes

Fall session classes include a sampler: basketball, soccer, T-ball, floor hockey, yoga, tennis, disc golf and parent/variety day–you never know what you’ll get!

Winter session classes include a sampler: basketball, soccer, T-ball, floor hockey, yoga, tennis, disc golf and parent/variety day–you never know what you’ll get!

Tiny Tots Sports Plus

This class is for preschoolers who want a little more from their sports class. The goal of this class is to not only introduce basic sport and movement skills, but to give children extra opportunities for retention and development of these skills. There is a total of 8 classes and children will be given double the opportunity to learn and practice their skills including actual game play. Each class will offer positive social interaction with other children their age and help to further advance social development skills such as listening, taking turns, cooperation and teamwork.

During each class, children will participate in a warm up, sports skills, preschool games like Red Light, Green Light, and end the class with the ever popular parachute.

All Tiny Tots receive a t-shirt and a keepsake, "I love sports" certificate.

Peewee sports

Peewee sports is designed especially for the young child as a positive and fun introductory experience to sports. Boys and girls learn basic skills and rules with low-key games that allow them to have fun, be active, socialize and learn sportsmanship. We have modified equipment and playing surfaces and specially designed instruction methods to allow children to have immediate success and learn skills quickly.

Choose from sport-specific classes or a sports sampler. Everyone gets a t-shirt.

Sampler classes

The sampler class may include soccer, kickball, t-ball, active play games and more.

Spring classes

Spring classes offer a great way for boys and girls to get ready for our summer sports classes. Sports include t-ball and soccer.

Summer classes

Games will be scheduled the last two weeks of the session and may differ from regular practice day, time and location. Sports include t-ball and soccer.

Peewee gymnastics

For both boys and girls. Beginning-level students will be introduced to the basic fundamentals of gymnastics. This includes the beam, floor, mini tramp, and more! This class will focus on fun and allow new students the opportunity to explore their skills with expert staff.

Instructors

Our expert instructors are trained by John Tobler, a 3-time National Gymnastics Champion and 3-time All-American Gymnast.

Gymnastics

From beginner to intermediate, coaches work with students to assist in improving skills and working with others to ensure that students not only become better gymnasts but, along the way, increase their self-esteem and self-confidence. Students are assigned to groups and stations that reflect their ages and abilities.

Instructors

Our expert instructors are trained by John Tobler, a 3-time National Gymnastics Champion and 3-time All-American Gymnast. Every level of gymnast is sure to benefit from our knowledgeable staff.

All-Star sports

The All-Star classes take the level of play up a notch. Kids play more games and gain even more sound instruction from our top-level coaches. The focus of the game play remains, however, as fun and kid friendly as our other classes. The All-Star program provides a great way to learn from the best, play exciting games and have fun.

All-Star baseball

This program is designed for boys and girls to have fun learning the fundamentals of baseball. Skills include throwing, catching, fielding, hitting a pitched ball from a coach and from a batting tee, player positions and basic game strategy. Emphasis is on instruction and fun.

Spring classes

This class is designed to reacquaint boys and girls with the basic skills and rules of baseball and t-ball. Class meets indoors.

Summer classes

This is an excellent lead up to BPAA baseball. A schedule for games will be handed out the first week. Games will be the last two weeks of the session and may differ from regular practice day, time and location.

All-Star soccer

This is a program designed to introduce boys and girls to the skills, rules and strategies of the fun and exciting game of soccer. A schedule will be handed out the first week. Games will be played the last two weeks on the session and may differ from regular practice day, time and location. Everyone gets a t-shirt.

Peewee tennis

Peewee tennis is the latest in comprehensive tennis programs, designed to introduce young players to the game in a fun and rewarding way. Equipment and court size is been modified to allow children to learn the sport quickly and develop skills. Program includes a t-shirt.

Kid Zone tennis clinic

A fun and engaging way to learn the game of tennis for kids. High-energy coaches will keep your kids laughing and hitting plenty of balls. Students can expect to learn the fundamentals of tennis strokes, techniques, rallying skills and, of course, have fun! Space is limited (4:1 student to coach ratio). Intermediate class is for those who've taken any tennis instruction before.

Youth tennis lessons

This comprehensive program teaches basic skills, strategies and etiquette. These lessons are for the beginning and intermediate level player (player at this level has taken a beginning level lesson before). Program includes t-shirt.

Teen tennis lessons

Teen tennis is designed to improve tennis skills as well as teach game and match strategies. These lessons are for the beginner to advanced beginner.

For ages 14 to 18.

Brooklyn Park Junior Tennis League

This is a development program for boys and girls to compete with others their own age/ability. For players who have already taken an introductory lesson and are looking to advance to an intermediate level. The program is coached by Park Center High School Coach Mike Vecellio. This is a great program if your child is looking to learn to play competitive tennis in the future! Program includes a t-shirt, practice and coaching time, plus contests or matches.

For boys and girls ages 7 to 14.

1.5 hours

Archery

Learn the basics of shooting safely and accurately with skilled instructors from Three Rivers Park District. Use a compound bow to shoot at stationary targets and from an elevated platform.
All equipment is provided.

For ages 9 to 16.

Summer Super Soccer Stars

Soccer Stars helps boys and girls sharpen their skills in preparation for BPAA soccer. The class meets twice a week, with the first few classes dedicated to skill development. The remainder of the classes will be geared toward lead-up games and scrimmages. This is a great opportunity to get friends together, learn skills and have fun playing soccer. T-shirt included in fee.

For boys and girls ages 8 to 12.

Fergie's 2017 World Cup Soccer Camp

Gordon “Fergie” Ferguson, Brooklyn Park's soccer expert and player, and coach trainer for BPAA and Northwest Kickers, proudly presents Fergie's Soccer Academy World Cup Soccer Camp! This is a great camp if you are planning on playing in BPAA or Northwest Kickers soccer programs. All coaches are trained by Fergie and are engaged, skilled and experienced in training young soccer players of all abilities. Campers will be taken on a soccer journey through high energy positive coaching and instruction. The players will want more each and every day, while eating, sleeping and breathing this great game.

Skills covered

Here are a few things that we will be covering while at camp:

  • Individual ball skills (ball mastery)
  • Turn, tricks and moves
  • Speed, agility and quickness games
  • Stations: dribbling, passing and shooting
  • Challenges: cross bar, dribbling, shooting, juggling

Park Center girls basketball camp

Park Center High School Head Varsity Girls coach Chris Vanderhyde and his staff will introduce fundamental areas of ball handling, shooting, footwork, offensive and defensive strategies to campers. Players will also have games, scrimmages and contests incorporated in the 4-day camp. Guest speaker each day. The fee includes camp t-shirt but campers must provide their own lunches.

Grades

For grades 3 to 8.

Park Center aggressive basketball

Park Center Varsity Basketball Coach James Ware and his staff will teach and drill aggressive basketball skills at this camp for players with a high desire to improve. Coaches will teach players aggressive guard skills and aggressive post play. Players will play 5-on-5 games with score clocks and officials.

Everyone get a camp t-shirt. Players are encouraged to sign up for ALL camps!

Grades

For grade 3 to 9.

Lunch

Players provide own lunch or contact Coach Ware to purchase lunch or for camp details at 612-865-9005.

Park Center soccer camp

Coaches will introduce soccer fundamental areas of ball handling with passing and shooting, proper footwork drills, offensive and defensive drills and skills and strategies. Players will also have scrimmages and contests incorporated in the 4-day camp. Fee includes camp t-shirt.

Grades

Open to girls and boys that will be in grades K to 8 beginning in September. 

Park Center volleyball camp

Varsity Head Coach Randy Almsted and his staff will introduce volleyball fundamentals of ball handling, hitting, footwork, offensive and defensive strategies. Players will also have games, scrimmages and contests incorporated in the 4-day camp. Fee includes camp t-shirt

Grades

Camp is offered to girls who will be in grades 3 to 8 and live within the Park Center High School boundaries.

Park Center boys football camp

Achieve It: Football Skills and Speed Camp

Park Center High School Varsity Coach Darrell May and staff proudly present Achieve It: Football Skills and Speed Camp. This camp will provide solid football fundamental skills through instruction, training and educating in a supportive, fun atmosphere. Our methods include instruction in speed development, disciplined footwork through active drills, improved agility, and improved body coordination. Most importantly, athletes will have a great experience working on their physical ability and their skills while building camaraderie through teamwork and new friendships.

This is a great opportunity for youth football players to learn and improve their skills before the start of their upcoming season. Camp includes t-shirt.

With limited spots available, we encourage early enrollment to ensure your child's reservation!

National Flag Football

National Flag Football launches Spring 2017, in partnership with Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks to bring you the very best in youth flag football programming.

This is a 5 vs. 5, non-contact, recreational, co-ed format.Teams are limited to 10 players to maximize playing time. This is an exceptional program for first time players who want to learn the fundamentals of football. This is also a wonderful opportunity for players who may want to continue to enhance their skills before taking the next leap into tackle football.

Participants will have an exclusive opportunity to compete in the Minnesota State Championships, which takes place at the National Sports Center on Saturday, June 11 (a separate fee is associated with this event).

There are no try-outs! Everyone participates! Children are placed on teams according to their school and grade to ensure classmates are playing together. Participants will receive a NFL reversible jersey, flag belt and individual participation award. Games are officiated by Minnesota State High School League referees.

Cheer America

Students will learn popular cheer, chants, choreographed dance and pom-pom routines, parade marching, techniques and other performance skills. At the conclusion of each session, students perform a group recital for family and friends. All students receive certificates and medals for participation in the program.

Safety awareness and self defense

American Kenpo Karate

American Kenpo Karate is designed to enhance self-esteem, self-discipline and safety awareness for all ages, from 5 through adult. Students are placed into classes according to age ability and can progress to yellow belt or higher. Self-discipline and self-defense, rather than aggressiveness are promoted.

Clothing

Students should wear shorts or sweat pants and a t-shirt. Uniforms are optional, come with a belt, and are available at the first class and throughout the course for $30.
