Youth Programs

Kid Zone out of school days

Grades Class duration
K through 5 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Need a little stimulation for your student when school's out? Kid Zone OST is the place to be. We will have all day programs for the working family. Students will enjoy awesome adventures in recreation as well as specialized themed activities. All at Zanewood Recreation Center. Please pack a lunch and snack from home for each day that your student is registered.

Winter break

Tuesday, December 27

Winter adventures

Explore winter fun with Kid Zone as we delve into winter recreation activities (subject to change depending on weather) such as sledding, snow shelters, cross country skiing, snow shoes, and more. After all the fun outside, enjoy a nice steamy cup of hot chocolate and story time. Please dress appropriately to play outside, weather permitting.

Wednesday, December 28

Kid Zone on ice

Come and enjoy the fun as Kid Zone takes a field trip to the Community Activity Center to ice skate. Have your student show off their moves and skills on ice, or come and learn with the rest of the gang. It's all about having fun and making lasting memories.

Science and technology explorer day

Enjoy the day creating cool science projects such as making an echo box, cloud in a bottle, balloon powered race car, plastic bottle powered boat, and more. To top off the day we will have an ultimate paper airplane tournament; students will design and customize their paper airplane and race other students. We will have a winner for the farthest plane and the coolest design.

A field trip to Grand Slam with Kid Zone!

Enjoy a great program with gym games, arts and crafts, and sports in the morning. Then be prepared to get loaded with fun at Grand Slam in Coon Rapids. Enjoy laser tag, bumper cars, arcade games, mini-golf, and goodies, all together with new friends or old.

Kid Zone is Fit Zone

Come and enjoy a fun-filled day at Kid Zone! Youth will have the opportunity to work with awesome strength and conditioning coaches from Totally Committed. Totally Committed will engage your child in the importance of healthy living and give them a fun experience to keep them growing strong! Not feeling like doing much? Kid Zone instructors will have plenty of other camp activities that will get your child excited.

Cheap Skate Day

Don’t miss out on our annual field trip to Cheap Skate. This is one of the favorite field trips Kid Zone participants have had the opportunity to go on. Don’t miss out on making new friends and laughing your way through some awesome music on roller skates.

Indulge in Sports Day!

Have fun with all your friends or make new ones as we focus on physical activities that will keep your child wanting more. High energy coaches will get your child hooked on the great benefits of friendly competition and challenging themselves to be the best they can be. We will have a wide variety of activities throughout the day to engage everyone—even those who are not into sports.

Feeling Crafty Day

If your child is hands on and creative, this is the day to let it all out. Awesome art instructors will lead activities that will challenge your child to be as creative as they can. Youths will have a wonderful experience expressing themselves through a wide variety of projects. Don’t worry, for those who are not feeling very crafty, the great Kid Zone staffs have plenty of cool activities up their sleeves.

Have you ever been to the Mill City Museum?

If you have, you know how fun it will be and, if you haven’t, don’t miss out on this opportunity for your child with Kid Zone. Register for this full day of great activities starting with awesome group activities in the morning so your child can make new friends. After lunch, we will launch into amazement at the Mill City Museum. Register soon!

Kid Zone Tech Day

Calling all techies and beyond. Kid Zone is having the fabulous Teen Tech Squad come out and do some amazing hands on projects with the kids. Kids will get a chance to work on some of the coolest technology projects right in their own community.

Kids Zone after school

Want a fun and enriching after-school activity for your child? Look no further. Kid Zone afterschool will provide your child with opportunities to grow their interest and broaden their horizons in various adventures and activities. Participants can look forward to Totally Committed Fit Fridays with health and nutrition, sports day, arts and crafts day, science and technology day, and free admission to these events: Princess/Heroes Ball, Totally Committed Kids, cake decorating contest and 3 free family bingo sheets.

Located at Zanewood Recreation Center.

Kid Zone tennis

A fun and engaging way to learn the game of tennis. High energy coaches will get your young ones moving and hitting using game-based drills to keep lessons fun. Our model is "less talking, more hitting." Students can expect to learn the core fundamentals of tennis strokes, techniques, rallying skills, and have fun! Intermediate class for those who've taken any tennis instruction before.

Winter princess and super heroes ball

Grades K through 5

Dress up in your favorite princess or super hero costume and come have a ball with us! We will have fun jamming to your favorite super hero and princess sound tracks. Door prizes and fun carnival games. Parents, this is your chance to party with your favorite princess and/or super hero!

Totally Committed Kids

Ages 5 to 11

Start your child’s healthy living early with Totally Committed Kids. Tyler Phillips, founder and CEO of Totally Committed will have your kids smiling, laughing, and cheering all the way to fitness. Kids will have the opportunity to learn the importance of keeping a healthy lifestyle and learn fun ways to continue for a lifetime. At the end of the session, kids will have a signed certificate of completion and a t-shirt.

Kid Zone Cake Decorating Contest

Ages 5 to 11

Do you have the next Kids Food Network star?  If so, start here at Zanewood with the first-ever cake decorating contest. Each participant will get two 5” un-iced cakes and will work their magic using frosting, sprinkles, and whole bunch of goodies that will be provided. We will have a first, second, and third place winner, all in the name of having fun!
