Swimming

Our swimming lessons follow the Learn – To –Swim program of the American Red Cross for children ages 6 and over.  We have developed our own program for ages 3-5 and have had success with it for over 15 years.  Our swimming lessons are held at two different locations: Brooklyn Junior High School (7377 Noble Ave.) and Jackson Community Pool (6000 109th Ave N).  Be sure to check the individual sessions for the exact location.

When selecting a level for your child please refer to the descriptions of the skill levels and choose the one that most closely fits your child’s ability.  It is common for some children to repeat a level several times before advancing onto the next level.  If you have questions on what level to sign up for please call 763-493-8373 and we can help you determine the proper level.

Julie Brusegaard-Bissell Swimming Scholarship

Julie Brusegaard-Bissell was a swimming instructor with the City of Brooklyn Park who passed away in December of 2008 from lung cancer.  Julie was a loving, caring and enthusiastic instructor who enjoyed teaching children of all ages and abilities to swim.

To honor Julie’s memory, her parents Tom and Myrnell Brusegaard have created the Julie Brusegaard-Bissell Swimming Scholarship to help children gain the same love of water and swimming that Julie had.

If you are interested in applying for a full scholarship for swimming lessons please contact Jenny Kordon or call 763-493-8373.  You must complete the application and turn it in along with the proper paperwork.  Allow one week for processing so make sure that you have it in well in advance of lesson registration dates.  The qualification guidelines are the same we use with our other recreation programs.
