The City of Brooklyn Park created Sunfish Pond, a kids fishing pond at the Community Activity Center, to be an attractive amenity for youth and families to promote the lifelong sport of fishing.
Fishing hours are spring to fall from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The pond is closed during the winter months (when the water is frozen).
Types of fish
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources stocks the pond with Bluegill sunfish.
We have a floating pier and a shoreline deck to fish from.
If you are 16 or older you must have a valid Minnesota fishing license in your name.
You may purchase a license at City Hall, Mill's Fleet Farm at 8400 Lakeland Avenue North, any Holiday Gas Station, and at most sporting goods stores.
Adults may fish if they are with a kid who is fishing.
You can keep the fish you catch or you can catch and release.
Do not cut up fish while they are still alive
Do not fish from the shore. It tramples the plantings that help resist erosion.
Respect the native grasses and environment.
You must follow Minnesota DNR fishing rules.
