Genealogy 101

Get started in genealogy research: basic forms, computer software options, what types of information to look for and where you might find it. Take the next step in putting the pieces together, looking for clues to other records and where to go to get records (as known as Breaking through my Brick Wall: How I Solved a 25-year Search for My Grandfather). The instructor is Cathi Weber.

How to Avoid Common Financial Scams

Genevieve Gaboriault, a supervising attorney at Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, will present about common financial scams that seniors encounter. You will learn how to identify scams and what to do if you or someone else falls victim to one.

Basic Computer 101

This class is designed to introduce you to using a computer. Maybe you are brand new? Maybe you want to understand more? This is the class for you. Instructor Abby Key will take you through a 4-week series to increase your skills and understanding at a pace designed for seniors.

Makeup Revival

For women 40 and better

When is the last time you updated your makeup and beauty regime?  Has your skin changed over time? What about your hair color? Join this “boot camp” to update your look with tips and techniques for ageless beauty. Learn about a variety of products (some may be completely new to you), application and the latest trends in makeup and skin care. Julie Sherman is a makeup artist with 20 years experience. This class is essential for busy, beautiful women who could use a little updating.No products or services will be sold!

A continuing adventure

Instructor Barbara Boulka continues the Watercolor Studio with all new paintings in every session, done in a fun and relaxing atmosphere! We will explore different ways to use watercolor, learning at your own pace through one-on-one instruction. Patterns provided. No drawing skills required; materials are furnished (a $20 materials fee will be payable to the instructor). If you are new to this class, please request a supply list when you register. Remember to bring a bag lunch.

Planning Your Move

Joe Van Orsdol, chief home inspector and owner at Right Home Inspections will share tips on what to expect from a home inspection and how to prepare for it. Finally, what to do with all of your treasures as you downsize and how to prepare for a physical move are important steps to consider as well. Defensive Driving

Age 55 and up driver improvement classes

Minnesota Highway Safety Council is offering defensive driving classes presented by a certified instructor. This course will save you 10 percent on your auto insurance for 3 years! There are no written or behind the wheel tests.

North Hennepin Community College (NHCC)

Interested in getting more experience with computers or other classes? Minnesota state colleges now offer tuition at $20 per credit for seniors 65 and older. North Hennepin Community College is a local, affordable college option; come check us out! We have evening, online, and weekend classes.

The spring semester begins January 9, 2017.

Honoring Choices Workshop

This 2-part series is designed to guide you through the process of an advanced care planning program called Honoring Choices. Our first class will talk about who will make decisions for you, in case you can’t. We will discuss the medical terminology used in a directive and what it all means. We will talk about goals to spur family conversations about future health care preferences. We will share resources, next steps and follow up. This workshop is led by Lyla Pagels, RN Coordinator Faith Community Nurse Program for Mercy and Unity Hospitals, Allina Health.
