About Summer Camp
Each of our campers spends up to 36 hours per week with us in the summer. Time spent in quality summer programs is vital to the growth and development of each individual. We use our camp core values as a road map for how to spend our days.
Everyone belongs here. Together we build community where each of us has a unique contribution.
Our staff works together as a team to make camp wonderful! They have character and integrity that make them great role models for our campers.
We offer young children a bright beginning in the world of camp.
We explore the world around us and enjoy learning new things.
We empower campers to find their inner voice and work toward their goals.
Our staff is trained to help campers foster friendships by being respectful and kind to others.
We work hard at finishing what we start and overcoming obstacles in our path.
We are confident in ourselves and in each other.
We go places and try new things!
We learn leadership by teaching what great leaders do and say.
Zest for life
Like Kid President says, "You're awake. You're awesome. Live like it"
We are thankful to have warm days, great leaders, and lots of kids to fill our summers!
A community that includes all of its members enriches the lives of all who live within it.
We approach our days with excitement and energy and bring others along for the ride.
Meet our Camp Leadership Team
The members of our Camp Leadership Team have an extensive background in summer camp. Each of our coordinators has been on staff for an average of 10 years.
Jen Gillard, CTRS
Jen has been working year round with the Recreation and Parks Department for 17 years. She has been working at various summer camps since she started volunteering at Camp Manitou at age 13.
Meet our summer camp staff
Our camp staff is made up of a team of 80 to90 people who come from a variety of backgrounds.
Our junior staff are teenage volunteers who have graduated from our Leader in Training Camp. Most of them were also campers.
Assistants and leaders
Our assistants and leaders are older teens and young adults who love working with kids. They are good students, athletes, musicians, actors, and scientists. The majority of our staff are college students who are studying to be teachers, special educators, recreation professionals, doctors, nurses, lawyers, social workers, occupational therapists, enlisted military, police officers, and much more. Each summer they return to camp with additional skills that they share with our campers and other staff.
Training and planning
Prior to the start of camp, our staff completes a week of training. We cover topics around best practice in youth development, inclusion, and leadership. We spend time planning the many great activities we will do during the summer.
