Environmental Health

Our focus is to protect the health and safety of the public through education, inspections and the elimination of environmental hazards.

The program is responsible for responding to public health nuisances and the inspection and licensing of:

  • Food and beverage (restaurants, food trucks, grocery/convenience stores, and temporary food stands)
  • Lodging (hotels, motels, and group homes)
  • Public swimming pools
  • Massage (establishment and therapists)
  • Body Art (tattoo and body piercing – establishment only)
  • Refuse haulers

Food and beverage

Licenses are required to own and operate a food establishment within Brooklyn Park or provide temporary food services for special events.

Building a new facility?

When building a new food facility, a plan review is required along with any associated building requirements. The plan review application and all of the documents must be approved before a license can be issued.

Boarding and lodging

Licenses are required to own and operate any boarding or lodging establishment, hotel or group home.

New facilities

When building or opening a new lodging facility, a plan review is required along with any associated building requirements. The plan review application and all of the documents must be approved before a license can be issued.

Pools and spas

All public swimming pools and spas must be licensed. This does not include private swimming pools or any natural swimming areas. No public pool can be constructed, installed, or materially altered unless reviewed and approved.

Body art and massage

Businesses or individuals providing body art or massage services must be licensed. Before opening, a layout of the establishment must be submitted and reviewed by the city.
