Detectives assigned to this unit work on person and property crimes and use a variety of tools to identify and locate suspects. They perform the following duties to build their case:
Take formal statements of victims, witnesses and suspects
Prepare and carry out search warrants
Prepare photo lineups
Process crime scenes investigation by photographing the scene
Dusting for and lift fingerprints
Inspector Marcus Erickson oversees the Narcotics Enforcement Unit, Street Crimes Unit (Safe Streets), Violent Offenders Task Force (VOTF), Juvenile Unit and the School Resource Officers (SROs).
Sergeant Robert Roushar oversees general investigations.
Narcotics Enforcement Unit
This is a Hennepin County led task force. The detectives within this unit use a variety of methods to catch and prosecute drug dealers.
School Resource Officers (SROs)
School resource officers serve as a police resource to faculty, students and parents of junior and senior high schools in Brooklyn Park. These schools include:
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
This is a 17-week substance abuse prevention and safety program that officers teach in sixth grade D.A.R.E. promotes healthy self-assertion, positive choices about risk-taking and health-related behaviors and positive social skills. Over the years, the D.A.R.E. curriculum has evolved to include resistance to gang membership, violence and destructive peer pressure, as well as substance abuse. Street Crimes Unit (Safe Streets)
Officers in this unit collect information on current and developing crime areas within the city in which they use proactive policing methods to dramatically reduce or eliminate the threat of crime. The unit has had great success in capturing numerous dangerous felons and in seizing a significant number of illegal firearms and drugs.
Violent Offenders Task Force
Officers assigned to this unit target repeat and high-level offenders. Using special investigative methods, task force personnel effectively investigate, apprehend, and prosecute some of our community’s worst offenders.
The personnel in this unit serve develop relationships with the youth and multi-cultural populations in Brooklyn Park. They work carefully to ensure the successful development and implementation of the Joint Community Police Partnership and Youth Violence Prevention Initiatives.
Hennepin County Child Protection
Hennepin County staff investigate allegations of child abuse or neglect and decide whether on-going child protection services are needed to assure the safety of the child.
The criteria for investigating child abuse or neglect are set by law. If the allegation does not meet the criteria, no further action is taken. If the screening staff decides to open the case for investigation, Hennepin child protection social workers conduct a traditional investigation or conduct family assessments.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Victim Notification Program
Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) administers the Victim Notification Program which allows eligible victims and witnesses to obtain reliable and timely information regarding a criminal alien's release from custody.
