** January 2017 Brooklyn Park Fire Department will begin the recruitment process for Paid On Call Firefighters. (POC's) Applications are only accepted at those times.**

Number of staff

Brooklyn Park uses a combination fire department that has both paid-on-call and full-time firefighters that respond to fires, medical emergencies and rescue services.

Today the department has 26 full-time firefighter/EMTs and 28 paid-on-call firefighter/EMTs.

There are also 3 full-time administrative assistants that do not respond to fires.

Full-Time Firefighters

Three of the City’s four fire stations are staffed 24 hours per day utilizing full-time firefighters. Full-time firefighters do not have to reside in Brooklyn Park.

Minimum requirements

Minimum requirements for becoming a full-time firefighter include:

  • 18 years or older with a valid Minnesota driver’s license
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Clear background check
  • Must be a Minnesota State Certified Firefighter II
  • Must be a Minnesota State Certified EMT-B

Paid On Call Firefighters

Paid-on-call firefighters are available to assist full-time firefighters during their off hours.

Minimum requirements

Minimum requirements for becoming an on-call firefighter include:

  • 18 years or older with a valid Minnesota driver’s license
  • Clear background check
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Must live within 30 minutes of a Brooklyn Park station
  • Must be a Minnesota State Certified Firefighter I
  • Must be a Minnesota State Certified EMT-B

Reserve Firefighters

Our reserve firefighter program allows individuals without prior training or experience to become a firefighter. Utilizing a combination of classroom study and on-the-job training, individuals are supported through the process of obtaining the required certifications in order to serve as a firefighter.

Minimum requirements

Minimum requirements for Reserve Firefighter include:

  • 18 years or older with a valid Minnesota driver’s license
  • Clear background check
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Must live within 30 minutes of a Brooklyn Park station
